Situada en la costa gaditana ba\u00f1ada por el Oc\u00e9ano Atl\u00e1ntico, a medio camino entre Portugal y Gibraltar, es una ciudad eminentemente tur\u00edstica, un destino vacacional para viajeros procedentes de todos los puntos de Europa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Villa de Rota is a fishing town in the province of C\u00e1diz, Andalusia, Spain. Su extensi\u00f3n superficial es de 84 km\u00b2. Sus coordenadas geogr\u00e1ficas son 36\u00ba 37&#8242; N, 6\u00ba 21&#8242; O. Se encuentra situada a una altitud de 9 metros y a 36 kil\u00f3metros de la capital de provincia, C\u00e1diz. Junto a la bah\u00eda de C\u00e1diz, l\u00edmita con las ciudades de Chipiona, Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barrameda y El Puerto de Santa Mar\u00eda. En&nbsp;<strong>Rota<\/strong>&nbsp;est\u00e1 enclavada la&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/villaderota.com\/villa-de-rota\/base-aeronaval-de-rota\/intro-e-historia.html\">Base Naval de Rota<\/a>&nbsp;que ocupa casi una tercera parte de su t\u00e9rmino municipal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2018, our town had 28,848 inhabitants. Its surface area is 84 km\u00b2. Its geographical coordinates are 36\u00ba 37&#8242; N, 6\u00ba 21&#8242; W. It is located at an altitude of 9 meters and 36 kilometers from the provincial capital, C\u00e1diz. Next to the bay of C\u00e1diz, bordering the cities of Chipiona, Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlucar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa Mar\u00eda. Con la invasi\u00f3n romana, cambi\u00f3 su nombre a \u00ab<em>Oraculum Menestei<\/em>\u00bb y posteriormente a \u00ab<em>Speculum Rotae<\/em>\u00ab. La civilizaci\u00f3n \u00e1rabe la denomin\u00f3 \u00ab<em>Rabeta Ruta<\/em>\u00ab, y los conquistadores cristianos la llamaron \u00ab<em>Rotta<\/em>\u00ab; y de ah\u00ed, su actual nombre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rota, due to its coastal location, has been a place of passage for different cultures and civilizations, although establishing the origin of the population is difficult due to the few archaeological remains found in its area, however, the few that exist date back to the Prehistory, especially the Iron Age, from which an important Necropolis has been found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first known name is \u00abAstaroth\u00bb, which would mean \u00abPort of Asta\u00bb, being \u00abAsta Regia\u00bb, one of the most important cities of the Tartessian civilization. With the Roman invasion, it changed its name to \u00abOraculum Menestei\u00bb and later to \u00abSpeculum Rotae\u00bb. Es por lo tanto en 1303 cuando&nbsp;<strong>Rota<\/strong>&nbsp;pertenece a los Ponce de Le\u00f3n, constando en la Historia la visita a la Villa de los Reyes Cat\u00f3licos, aloj\u00e1ndose \u00e9stos en el Castillo de Luna. Durante esta visita le concedieron a D.Rodrigo Ponce de Le\u00f3n, el t\u00edtulo de Marqu\u00e9s de C\u00e1diz, y se organizaron para homenajear a los invitados, torneos de Caballeros y corridas de toros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was Sancho IV, \u00abEl Bravo\u00bb, who initially gave the Villa to Alonso P\u00e9rez de Guzm\u00e1n, \u00abEl Bueno\u00bb, as a reward for his heroic feat in the defense of Tarifa, who in turn donated it as a wedding gift to his daughter. Isabel, when she married Fern\u00e1n P\u00e9rez Ponce de Le\u00f3n, Master of Alc\u00e1ntara and first lord of Marchena. It is therefore in 1303 when Rota belonged to the Ponce de Le\u00f3n family, recording in history the visit to the Villa of the Catholic Monarchs, who stayed in the Luna Castle. During this visit, they granted Rodrigo Ponce de Le\u00f3n the title of Marquis of C\u00e1diz, and knight tournaments and bullfights were organized to honor the guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"\ud83d\udfe2 #TURISMO \ud83d\udc49 Una ciudad es su gente... as\u00ed es la gente y la ciudad de Rota\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K85qn7_veIg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fallecido en 1780 el \u00faltimo de los Ponce de Le\u00f3n el XI Duque de Arcos, sin dejar sucesi\u00f3n, pas\u00f3 al Ducado de Osuna, siendo abolido este se\u00f1or\u00edo en 1823. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoy&nbsp;<strong>Rota<\/strong>&nbsp;es una ciudad moderna y cosmopolita, en la que se encuentra tranquilidad y armon\u00eda, s\u00f3lo interrumpido por el r\u00edtmico latir de las olas del mar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the last of the Ponce de Le\u00f3n family, the 11th Duke of Arcos, died in 1780, leaving no succession, he passed to the Duchy of Osuna, and this lordship was abolished in 1823.
